How to Install a Dummy Door Knob (Beginner-Friendly Guide)
Dummy door knobs are the easiest hardware to install—no latch, no complicated prep.
They’re perfect for closets, hallway doors, pantry doors, and decorative applications.
Tools You Need
✔ Screwdriver
✔ Drill (optional for pilot holes)
✔ Pencil for marking holes
Step 1: Position the Knob

Hold the dummy knob against the door at the desired height (usually 36–38 inches from the floor).
Step 2: Mark Screw Hole Locations

Use a pencil to mark the center of the screw holes.
Step 3: Pre-Drill (Optional)

If the door is hardwood, drilling small pilot holes helps prevent splitting.
Step 4: Screw the Knob Into Place

- Align the knob with the marks
- Insert screws
- Tighten until secure—don’t overtighten
Step 5: Test & Adjust

✔ Pull the knob to ensure it’s secure
✔ Check for wobbling
✔ Tighten screws if needed
